APOCALYPTO
This recent Mel Gibson offering doesn't have him in it at all. Apocalypto is a movie that's almost a fantasy - except that it probably is more true than not. It's the story of ancient tribes of central America.
The main character is shown as a loving husband and father who is thrown into a war between his tribe and a nearby hostile tribe. The hostile tribe is more advanced and have even built temples to their gods. However, they offer human sacrifices to appease their gods and those sacrifices come from among the captives and slaves they've captured after ransacking villages.
You can follow this heroic man and learn from his courage during this very troubled time. It's a time before the first explorers hit the shores.
I was fascinated by the movie. There are subtitles so that the language is kept the way it should be which makes it almost have a documentary feeling. It has all the excitement and tension any good story should have while looking into the heart and soul of the hero.
Be warned: There are some very graphic violent scenes. It's not for the children to watch.
