RABBIT PROOF FENCE

If you get a chance to see Rabbit Proof Fence, then by all means do! This is such an inspirational film.

This 2002 film is set in 1931 when the government in Australia was trying to save the Aborigine people "from themselves" by kidnapping caste children (half white) and training them to do servants' chores. This is the story of Molly, her sister, and their cousin, with Molly taking the lead in escaping from the training center to lead the two younger girls across 1500 miles of Australian wilderness back home again.

The sheer courage and determination of Molly is seen throughout the film, which, by the way, is based on a true story. You get to meet the real Molly and her sister at the end of the movie.

This is worthwhile viewing for the whole family and could be a springboard to discussions of politics, history, and what governments can subject their own people to.
