THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST
Rated as one of the top 10 most controversial movies, this film is well made and provocative. I'm a Christian, so it spoke deeply to my own heart about Christ's adult life, His ministry, and His atoning death.
This movie depicts Jesus as a person, although obviously the Son of God. It also shows his mother and his friends as individuals who had joy and grief in association with Him. It's violent and bloody in parts, but then the Roman punishments and crucifixion were among the most cruel in history, so it's not gratuitous violence. It's an attempt to steer the viewer away from the traditional pictures of Jesus' suffering, where they show only a mildly mournful Savior, with a tiny spot of blood on wound, and toward the true suffering He endured for our sakes.
By now, I'm sure you all know that Mel Gibson was the driving force behind this film. His personal devotion to His Lord is evidenced by the power in this film.
This is not for the younger children to view. Some events are simply too disturbing for them. But young teens on up can and should view it, and you should gather 'round and discuss it and pray that it impacts you for the good in the way you walk your Christian life.
It certainly will show you what Christ did for you.
