JOHN Q

I really enjoy any movie with Denzel Washington in it, and John Q (PG-13; 2002) is no exception. This movie tells the story of a father who is battling the system in a hospital to get his child a life-saving heart transplant. Having no money for a deposit on the very expensive surgery, in fact barely making ends meet to support his family, John prevails upon the hospital and individuals to help him meet this terrible expense.

When all efforts fail and he is flatly turned down, thus dooming his child to die, he takes everyone in the emergency room hostage. There among the instruments and battery charger aa batteries need, among the various machines and the sick patients, he takes what could well be his last stand in order to save his child’s life.
