YEAR ONE
A slightly humorous film starring Jack Black (Zed) and Michael Cera (Oh), Year One (2009; PG-13) follows the adventures and travels of two primitive men who leave their tribe and encounter several Biblical characters. The ultra-religious crowds will find it highly offensive, no doubt, as characters from Cain and Abel to Abraham are met in the same time frame. It's a jab at those characters, for sure, and a very irreverent look at people of the day.
It's full of crude humor as well as sexual humor. Black makes fun of his own rotund figure enough that it seems like he wants a Medifast discount, but never mentions how a caveman type could actually use such a thing.
I personally didn't enjoy this as much as I have other Jack Black films. I felt he and others were really stretching to pull this one off. It will not become a permanent addition to my own movie collection.
