Talkie Zoo: THE WOODS

So, Son said this wasn't really a scary movie. I suspected that with a title like The Woods (2006; R), that it would be and I was right. It's not the kind of movie that makes you jump out of your skin. It's just creepy.

The story revolves around a teen girl who has "special gifts". Her mother is afraid of her and sends her off to various boarding schools. The last school has girls who are also special in an assortment of ways. A test of sorts is administered to the new girl. It appears to be printed on hand made paper, and she really just circles random answers without reading the questions. She is awarded a scholarship for her giftedness, which includes room and board, possibly dental discounts, and other benefits. Of course, it's a ruse.

The teachers are also endowed with "gifts". The intent, though, isn't to develop the gifts but to make the girls be offerings to the woods around the school to placate the spirits there.
