DANCES WITH WOLVES
A classic pioneer style story, Dances With Wolves (1990), starring Kevin Costner, tell us about a wounded and decorated Union soldier who has asked for an assignment on the frontier. It is told through his journal, which he writes daily and draws pictures in it of new things he has encountered.
I saw this PG-13 film quite a few years ago and remembered that I liked it, so when I found it on sale at a special price I couldn't resist picking up a copy.
Lt. John Dunbar struggles with the language barrier between himself and the local Native American tribe that is curious about him. He quickly discovers that these people are family oriented and highly spiritual while still being courageous in battle and self-sufficient.
He meets a woman (Mary McDonnell) who was taken captive as a small child and who struggles to remember English, as the tribe tongue has now become her language. She finally is able to act as an interpreter when the soldier and the tribe begin striking up a friendship.
