EUROPEAN VACATION
Second in the series of Vacation movies, I found this one less delightful than the first. Yet, it still had plenty of funny parts.
Again, the family of Clark Griswald (Chevy Chase) find themselves in the middle of a vacation where everything goes wrong that can go wrong. Not as coarse as the first one, this version shows the children of Griswald as a little older and now very interested in the opposite sex. Beverly D'Angelo does a great job of playing his loving and mostly supportive wife as they travel through Europe by car and meet stereotypical French and German residents.
I think the funniest part was when they literally invaded the home of an older German couple, mistaking them for long-lost relatives. The couple gives them beds for the night, and plenty of German food to eat, while smiling in a confused but benevolent way. As soon as the Griswald's leave, they question one another about who these people are.
This one is rated PG-13, as there is still some language and sexual innuendo, but it's not as filled with the "F" word as the first one.
