PAN'S LAYBRINTH

Foreign films with subtitles usually aren't my favorite to watch. However, Pan's Labyrinth is definitely the exception.

This movie, filmed in Spain, is a fairytale with a good moral to it. The characters are all larger-than-life, including the "faun" and the fairies that guide Ofelia. Ofelia is a little girl who is a dreamer, and her mother encourages this by giving her books of fairy tales. Her mother marries a very severe Spanish army captain who's only goals in life are to kill revolutionaries and to have his son by his new wife. He is harsh and cruel to Ofelia and others. But Ofelia is destined for greater glory, though through much hardship.

This movie could be very disturbing for younger children, so I don't recommend it for them to view.
