THE PRESTIGE
The Prestige (2006) is an intriguing mystery with many subplots to keep you on your toes. It's the story of two magicians in the late 1800s who compete heavily for the fame and resultant fortune of a career in magic. The competition is so heavy that either will resort to just about anything, including risking their personal lives, to get their name up in lights and be a noted presence on the stage. The twists and turns of the plot keep you in suspense, and give you a very surprising ending.
The term "the prestige" comes from the three-part process of putting on a magic show. First, there's the "pledge" (where magicians introduce you to ordinary objects), the "turn" (where they use ordinary objects to surprise and astound you), to the prestige (the final step where they amaze you with a climactic ending by completely changing the object).
Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play the once-friends now-rivals in this tale from an era gone by. It's rated PG-13 for some violence and some disturbing images, but on a whole, I found it to be acceptable for family viewing where there aren't any small children who might be frightened of magicians later on.

The Prestige is a wonderful film and the pairing of Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale was a stroke of genius by Christopher Nolan. Hugh and Christopher, whose performances were oustanding were wonderfully supported by Michael Caine, David Bowie and Andy Serkis.
I had to get the DVD to see this very watchable film and in total since it's release I have watched it five times. It is a film that draws you into it and I found each time I watched IT there was a small detail I had missed before. A film that should have easily been nominiated for an Oscar for Christopher Nolan, Director and Hugh Jackman who I felt had the edge over Christian Bale who was excellent.
I agree! This is one of the best films to come along in a long time.
