DUNE

Dune has got to be one of the strangest movies I've ever watched. This 1984 film carries you to a universe where a "spice" controls men, and men want to be in control of the production of the "spice". The "spice" is mined on a planet where there is no water and gigantic worms under the desert-like surface pose a threat to all who go there. One man, born to be a messiah of sorts, begins his self-discovery and starts to play a major role in defeating the evil doers.

This movie is part action, part dreamscape as the story unfolds. I had to watch it twice to really understand the story. I could see the early stages of The Matrix and Tremors in this sci-fi film.

It's rated PG-13, probably for the battles and what happens at the hands of the evil, fat, floating Duke.
