ROADHOUSE
I watched Roadhouse for the first time in many years, the other night. It's an old Patrick Swaze film, back when he had big hair with a curl that came down over his forehead. Of course, he was cute and he was buff, which I'm sure had something to do with his popularity as a movie star.
However, for some reason, though I remember the cursing and the fighting, I didn't remember seeing so much bawdiness and skin. I was really surprised about that, and those instances of sex scenes could have been left out of the movie and you'd still have a complete story. I suppose they were included either to show just how "bad" the bad guys were or to attract a crowd who tends to only go to movies with lots of that in it. Nevertheless, it seemed out of place with the general story line of the movie.
It's the story of a professional bouncer who is hired to clean up a really rough bar and dance hall called the Double Deuce. He encounters a town boss (Ben Gazzara) who owns everyone and everything, and what he doesn't own he wants to, so he exacts life-threatening pressure on the owners. Swaze has to not only clean up the bar, but clean up the whole town and rid it of this evil menace. He meets up with a beautiful lady doctor in the ER, who becomes attracted to him.
You can probably guess the ending.
