THE ROOKIE

This movie is great family entertainment in every sense of the words. It's rated G, so that lets you know it's ok for your littles to watch. Released in 2002, The Rookie, Starring Dennis Quaid, is the story of a Texas coach who makes a wager with his so-far losing high school baseball team that if they make it to State, he'll try out again for the Major Leagues. They accomplish their part of the bargain, and he sets out to accomplish his.

I love that this film shows us his family and the genuine love between a husband and wife despite hardships and trials. I also love that it doesn't show the hero as a womanizer when he's far away from home. His thoughts always return to his wife.

He makes the Majors and has some success at that. But his true interest is still in coaching the high school ball team, and his success at Major League Baseball is short-lived.
