THE SANDLOT
I am really partial to sports based movies. Every time a new one comes out, I watch it. The Sandlot isn't new, of course, but it's still one of my favorites.
In this movie, the boys who play baseball at the vacant lot encounter plenty of adventures and drama, as well as lots of humorous moments. Especially so when they meet the blind man who lives next door to the sandlot and who is grumpy beyond all measure. It turns out, he is a former baseball superstar, and they learn a lot about life from this man who softens and begins sharing with them.
While this 1993 movie points to the Yankees as the hero team, I still wonder: If those boys were given cubs tickets, wouldn't they still attend the game? I think they would. After all, they ate, breathed, and slept baseball.
It's rated PG because of some mild language and the fact that there is tobacco chewing in the film. Otherwise, I think it's still a good choice for true family viewing.
