HORSEMEN
Dennis Quaid really is one of my favorite actors, especially in his more recent films. With his rugged good looks combined with compassion, it's a tough combination to beat in the roles he plays. Horsemen is no exception.
In Horsemen (2009; R) he plays a police detective, Aidan Breslin, who is hunting a person or persons who are committing some very ritualistic and particularly grisly murders. The murders are supposedly patterned after the four horsemen of the Apocalypse in the Bible. The police think they have ended with the fourth murder, but then figure out that one of the murders doesn't completely fit the M.O., which sends them hunting the killers again.
In the meantime, a young Asian girl confesses to taking part in her adoptive mother's murder, and she is plenty creepy in her role. Breslin's own two sons are pretty much ignored as he searches relentlessly for these terrible killers. The older son looks like he's been taking the best diet pills because he has energy but no excess weight. Having lost their mother to cancer several years ago, the subplot in the film is that they have, for all intents and purposes, also lost their father to his work.
The creepiness continues as the detective begins to understand just how important his relationship with his sons is while the bizarre murders continue.
