AMELIA
This film is the story of Amelia Earhart's flying career. Amelia (2009; PG) is based on two books about her life, combining the views from both to form a more three dimensional picture of her personally and professionally.
Amelia is played by Hillary Swank and her publisher, and later husband, is played by Richard Gere. He discovers her and seeks to have her fly across the Atlantic. The catch is, on the first flight, she's not the pilot. She's the commander. This doesn't exactly sit well with her, but she agrees to do it. After that, she goes on many flights and endorses many products to earn money for more flights. Even though she doesn't actually use the products she endorses, which makes her uncomfortable, she goes on with it because all she really loves is flying and it's the only way to support her love.
Actress Hillary Swank was the perfect choice for the part, in my opinion. Tall and slender, as though she's been taking herbal slimming pills, her strong features make her look almost identical to the pictures we see of Amelia Earheart.
The story is the ups and downs of her life, including another man who almost wins her heart. We all already know how the story ends - never again seen after an attempt to fly around the world when it's supposed her plane crashes at sea. In spite of the sad ending, this story is inspirational to women who attempt to do something meaningful with their lives regardless of those who try to stand in their way.
