FAME

For great entertainment with a story about victories and disappointments, Fame (2009; PG) fits the bill. I remember this as a weekly television show that I enjoyed a number of years ago. The spirit remains in the film. The spirit of hopes and dreams and friendships.

The story is that of the students of a New York school of performing arts. Against all odds, they audition and are accepted into the school, which is demanding. In addition to classes in their crafts, the afternoons are spent in academic studies. They must maintain a "'B" average to stay in the school. We watch as the students bloom and grow in their crafts, and as the teachers support and encourage them along the way. Of course, none of the teachers allows the students to slack off. The rigorous schedule and demanding dance classes offer the best fat burner one can imagine.

Of course, the best part is the sound track, which I intend to acquire very soon.
