YES MAN
You know, Jim Carrey is a pretty surprising actor. From Ace Ventura to Bruce Almighty, he has gone from just a clown and buffoon to an actor that can be taken seriously, even in humorous roles. I have to be honest and tell you that a number of years ago I really didn't care for his comedic style. I always thought he was over the top in trying to make people laugh. I've changed that opinion, though.
Yes Man is further proof that even the most clownish celebrities can play a role that is funny and poignant at the same time. In this film, he goes from a slightly depressed bank loan officer who declined every loan and declined every invitation from friends, to someone who says "yes" to absolutely every opportunity. This change comes from a meeting he attends that reeks of a faith healing meeting. He is so won over that he doesn't even understand that sometimes "no" is an appropriate answer.
Carrey does offer a lot of physical comedy in this film but also reveals the heart and soul of the character "Carl". Worth watching, in my opinion.
