SWEENEY TODD DVD

Awhile back, I told you about an upcoming movie called Sweeney Todd, starring Johnny Depp. Well, I finally got to watch it the other night because my son rented the DVD. I was really looking forward to seeing it, since I am a huge Johnny Depp fan, and I wasn't disappointed at all.

Yes, it's a musical. But this isn't The Sound of Music by any stretch of the imagination. It's a very dark musical centering around a barber who lost years of his life in prison on a trumped-up charge. The judge who sent him up the river had designs on Todd's beautiful wife and hoped to win her by getting rid of her husband. But, Todd was eventually released from prison and this is where the story really starts.

He is bent on having his revenge for the lost years of his life and for the wife and baby he also lost in the process. He takes the name "Sweeney Todd" and establishes a new barber shop, over the meat pie store of a less-than-fastidious woman who lacks something when it comes to freshness of food and cleanliness of kitchen.

Todd designs a barber chair that will dump dead bodies into the basement of the store as smoothly as Precor elliptical equipment. He cuts the men's throats while he's giving them a shave, then slides them off the chair and down a hole in the floor to get rid of them. Now, this isn't the only thing that happens to the bodies, but I'll let you watch the movie to find out the rest.

In fact, if I say much more about the film it will spoil the whole thing, so I think I'll just say "Watch it" and be done. :)
