THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS

This is certainly a scary movie, although there are some comedic moments. The People Under the Stairs is a Wes Craven film from 1991. Not likely to be destined as a classic horror film, though. The adult couple in the film were certainly frightening and bizarre enough as they sought out the people who broke into their house. They kill the adults, leaving only the child thief to elude and evade them while talking to the captives and others in his street-wise manner.

Rated R for scary stuff and language, watch it if you must. But it's very long and drawn out with a lot of the scenes taking place inside the walls or in the basement of the movie. Besides the murderous and cruel couple, the characters were predictably boring.
