EQUILIBRIUM
What a political commentary this one is! Equilibrium is a movie about a time after the Third World War, staged in the early years of the 21st century. In a world now gone basically mad, feelings are blamed for everything that's ever gone wrong in the world and are now outlawed. To enforce this, every world citizen is required to take a dose of a medicine that removes feelings from them. They do this at regular intervals and are cued to do this by a loud tone, much like a weather alert for cities.
Freedom of thought is gone. So is art, love, anger, compassion, music and everything else that either produces feelings or is the result of feelings. One man, and enforcer of this law, is converted to believe feelings should be released and not kept medicated out of existence. Now he is the enemy of the fascist state.
Go with Preston (Christian Bale) as he moves from loyal priest of the state to revolutionary.
Rated R for violence, of which there is plenty. But I found that regardless of the violence, this was an excellent movie and one worth watching over and over again to really see the nuances of the political commentary it holds.

gotta respect the gun-fu of Equilibrium... plus there's an admirable amount of underlying meaningfulness for substance's sake
I agree! We could all take a lesson or two from this one.
