ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

This movie took me immediately back to my pre-teen years of watching Beatles movies like Hard Day's Night. The setting is indeed the 60s, with the anti-war movement, love ins, sit ins, and the whole hippie peace movement. The story is set around Jude, a dock worker from Liverpool ("Hey, Jude") and Lucy, an American teen with high ideals ("Lucy in the Sky, with Diamonds" - remember LSD?) who tries to find herself through the peace demonstrations led by an anarchist with more violent intentions.

At one point, the audience is definitely led to believe the group leader is bedding down with Lucy, and perhaps he is or that's his intention. Jude and Lucy part ways for a time.

The cinemagraphics definitely make you feel like you're watching a music video from the late 60s or early 70s with a story line interspersed between the psychodelic scenes. This is a musical romance that's rated PG13, for the language and brief nudity in it. Still, it was a fascinating movie with an engaging story and interesting characters.
