THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN

This is as interesting a movie as you'd want to watch. Several classic fiction and comic book characters are brought together as a team to help save England. Instead of performing evil deeds, as they would have, they are now performing acts of heroism.

The characters include Dorian Gray, The Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Captain Nemo, Ishmael, Allan Quartermain, Tom Sawyer, and Mina Harker. M (for Moriarity) is also included as the one who gathers the group. Of course, the tale has twists and turns, and we learn that two of the characters are still bad guys who are really trying to capture the powers of the others and roll it all into one monstrous bad guy.

I found it interesting that the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde transformation wasn't done with CG. That was an actual costume and makeup application that took 8 hours to put on Jason Flemyng. This is where the budgeting and planning for this movie, as opposed to, say, The Incredible Hulk, varied quite a bit. The Hulk was a CG effect and it was very expensive to use. Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, being the actual man in costume, cost less to produce but it meant a long makeup time and a very heavy costume to wear during those days of shooting.
