1408 - Revisited
Although I pre-reviewed this movie a few weeks ago, I was finally able to go see it today. Michael Enslin (John Cusack) is a cynical writer who doesn't believe in anything - not God, not ghosts, not anything. In fact, he visits and writes about so-called haunted houses, mansions, and hotels just so he can de-bunk their claims.
So he heads to the Dolphin Hotel to stay in a room they at first refuse to book him in because of it's terrible and morbid history. He intends to stay at least one whole night, but the creepy hotel manager (Samuel L. Jackson) claims he will only stay an hour before he commits suicide or goes mad. What ensues after he checks in is the stuff nightmares are made of.
1408 has everything I like about a scary, thriller movie, especially what I call the "jump factor". Yes, it made me jump in several places even when I figured out what would probably happen next. But there were lots of places I couldn't foresee what would happen. Stephen King did a great job writing this story, and the movie was just scary enough for me to love it. I highly recommend it to you.
